Like I wrote in my first post I just got new gear and I wanted to strat of with mackies...I read alot about bass but next to nothing about mackerel.
What's the best setup? Rig? Hook? etc...
What artificial lure's best?
You can catch macks on bare hooks, add silver foil or feathers or even bits of plastic tubing. There are ready made rigs, in strings of 3,4,5,and 6 hook lures or you can try for them with a small flash spinner on light tackle if you want to catch them for sport.
So easy to catch there is not that mutch to write about them.
Here is a link to one of the better ready made multi hook rigs
Mackerel are suckers for anything small and flashy and as mentioned, ready made feathers and lures with 4 to 6 hooks are a good bet.
If you want to use a bait which can score other fish as well, thus expanding your options, then you should try mackerel strips. Buy a large mackerel or two from a fish mongers or super market (not tackle shop as they cost a lot more!!!)
K, I get it. One paternoster and a hail mary for luck.
I was thinking about catching some sandeels with my bare hands, will they do? Would I have to cut them into strips aswell?
I know sandeels are great bait for about anything, how is this on 60 inch seaeel?
What rig for that?
