I quite enjoy making up my own feathers (when i get time ) but the one component i'm having difficulty tracking down is the very fine glitter wire, the stuff that gives a two tone effect . Could anyone point me in the right direction , have tried many tackle shops and drawn a blank ! THANKS.

Try a Google with 'metalized mylar tape' loads of manufacturers out there with as many colours and patterns. Loads cheeper than buying from a fly tying supplies shop

If it is only supplied in wider rolls than you want take it to a sympathetic butcher with one of the old fashioned slicing macines for slicing cooked meats and get him to throw it through in the size you want.

If your thinking of making up some mackeral feathers, flies for sea fly fishing,or want to tart up your trebles (tarting up trebles on even basic old style mackeral spinners has seen me catch Bass,if the Bass are there.)
Theres many places to get some materials.

One good source is Yorkshire Game Angling....have a look at the likes of,

Lureflash twinkle

Lureflash Mobile

Flouroflash

Maraglit

Mattabou

Holo g

I think the "Maxi Packs" are a good deal, you get a pack of approx ten colours in one go. Buy 3 different packs and get one free. Enough materials to last years. Good qaulity and good value. Plus most importantly it catches fish.

Why not try the mylar ribbon, used to tart birthday presents and the like, get it from most supermarkets and card shops, just cut it lengthways (a little fiddly, i know!) but a lot cheaper than buying it from fishing and game sites!
