Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone could help me with the max HP my 14ft Virgo marine open boat could take?

I cannot find anything online about these boats, nor is there a plate on the boat stating its max HP. Currently using a 6HP, but could do with a bit more speed. Have the option to test a 15HP 4 stroke, but worried it will be a bit heavy?

Thanks in advance.

Is it like this boat?

If so, the 6hp will be making go as fast as it’s ever going to go. This type of hull has a maximum speed which is dictated by the hull design, not by the power - 6hp is plenty to push it to its maximum speed and adding another 9hp will just make it ride more bow up with no extra speed and possibly make the handling rather dangerous too.
If you want to go faster the only answer is to swap the boat for one with a planing hull.
