Anyone seen the new fixed spool reel 4000 size from Megabass ???

Looks to have a very small line capacity and the 'blurb' says that its designed for braid only.

Looks great and cheaper than a Stella,,,also they say its been designed for Sea bass etc.

Anybody any thoughts ?

I saw one on one of the Japanese eBay shops the other day. Looks lovely! I think it may have been Samurai Tackle, but not certain.

If it is the new Megabass Luvita 256 you guys are talking about it is a slightly improved blingy version of the Daiwa Luvias 2506, and besides its rather nice look there is absolutely nothing new or revolutionary with this reel.

Daiwa manufactures all “Megabass” reels on existing platforms and whilst some of them offer an improved performance compared to the original donor reel this improvement alone isn’t really enough to support the massive price increase on some of the latter offerings.

I thought maybe it was a little bit gimmicky. Is that also the case with the baitcasting reels they come out with, or do they genuinely put some effort into those?

Thats what I was thinking Vidar.
I think I saw a picture of it on the front page of 'Plat'.
Its listed as a 'new' addition to the site, but the spools are so shallow it looks to me that you wouldnt get much braid on etc.
Definatley interesting though eh..........

The bulk of the current “Megabass” baitcasting reels are developed from the Daiwa Millionaire Ringa & Ize Light platform, and whilst the original Megabass Monoblock was worth the money you paid for it the same cannot really be said about the new Topaz, Titanio and Racing versions.

The original Megabass Ito super-tuned baitcasting reel, which was built on the Daiwa TD-Z platform was, and still is, one of the best baitcasting reels money could buy.

Do Daiwa own megabass then?
No, but they have had a close co-operation for a good few years. This co-operation has up to now mainly been on the reel side, and has manifested itself in the design and production of classics such as the TD-Ito 103 baitcasting reel

In fact, the above mentioned co-operation became even closer at the beginning of this year where Mr Ito was given a place on the Daiwa board, and will have the responsibility for the development of a range of new Daiwa products.

I use a Dawia 3012TD for Feeder Fishing (coarse fishing) its a brilliant reel, I was using it on Sunday and wondered if it had the guts to use Plugging, Ive used it for Big Barbel and for biggish Carp on the Method Feeder?

It'll be more than capable. That's the double handle one right?! I used to coarse/match fish a lot myself. Mid range Daiwa's should get more of a mention than they do here. Next one's up - the TD-R's (also now done with a double handle as I'm sure you're probably aware) are very similar to the Tierra's sold and used in the States as mid/low price spinning reels. So many of the Daiwas have water resistant drags etc that they're all really quite suitable.

Was gonna mention something else too but my mind just gone blank...

I think like Vidar says top end Daiwa's are used as the platform for Ito and Megabass reels. Not sure how many of them are aimed at anglers or more likely collectors. The Japanese are fanatical about custom reels but not sure whether they actually use them in anger They are prepared to pay the price for exclusivity though....

As an aside I used 3000 size Daiwas for feeder fishing for carp for years without any problems. They are more than capable for any bass lure fishing.

Hi guys. I am up to buy a reel for my new rod (Zenaq Defi Plaisir DP88) and I have my eyes on the Daiwa New Luvias 3000. Does anyone of you own this reel? Do you have an opinion or have heard any comments? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
