Had one for 5 years now and still going strong .....good bit of kit. Pete
i have 4!! 2 that are 10 years old and 2 that are 3-4 years! very good sturdy bit of kit ive upgraded to the ultegra and it is amazing!!

but anyway op there are plenty of good reels about the cheaper ones are catching up on quality but I personally stick to penn, diawa and shimano for reels (shimano being the daddy!)

Don't buy the Penn surfblaster it suffers badly from line twist and wind knots.
I've got 3 surfblasters and yet to have to any problems so far, with either braid or mono (I hope I haven't jinxed myself now!!!)

Have you ever looked at Tackle Fanatics. They are big in the carp market. They do sell brand new reels but also specialise in buying and selling second hand carp reels. Worth checking out for the "big pit" type reels that carp anglers use. You could find a bargain on a second hand reel which has probably had minimum use.

Just check the internet a lot of people have had this problem, if you strip it down and service it each time you use it, it does help but if you put any pressure on it, it soon comes back.

Surf blasters are a awesome cast and retrieve reel especially with the braid spool but really suffer especially the handle with salt water
