As long as there is a wind and there's plent of that today, you won't get bothered by the midges. Been up at Etive a couple of times this year and never seen a midge. The famous Avon skin so soft seems to stop them biting but doesn't stop them from flying into your face and annoying the hell out of you. The only solution is a midge net although you can save a few quid by using a coat hanger and a pair of the wifes tights:fishing:

i was pike fishing loch ken with a mate who took a bad reaction to the midges,i just had a few regular bites but he came out in lumps and had to get medical attention.try to keep away from bushes, trees etc if poss where they'll be worse but defoe get a hat with net as i once had to cut a trip to loch rannoch short as they swarmed us and were in our eyes, ears scalp etc it was like a slow torture.have heard that avon skin so soft works but the mozzie repellants with deet in should work well, did for me in florida and i was fishing an alligator infested river at dusk wearing shorts and sandals but sprayed myself well and the crate of bud helps too lol.

last monday i psyched myself up to have my teeth looked at as ive been in bad pain for a few months. put on my brave face and headed to emergency dentist. the relief when they pulled a molar from my scull. however, the next day i was still in pain but a different pain, went to the hospital on friday only to be told they had fractured my jaw! so im sure a few midbe bites will be ok

thats the spirit as they say no pain no gain as they say the skin so soft works well and i also find jungle formula works to but if there bad its got to be a midge net or as says the wifes tights but i dont bother with the hanger that would look right silly i prefer the bank robber look more macho i think:eek: believe me take a pair just in case coz if there bad there torture  and you will be wishing you had good luck anyway and hope theres a wind blowing.

Answer to your last question definately YES.When i was up there last there was a guy with a netted hat my god i wish i had one myself. My face after that trip resembled the moon all the bumps from bites and god they did hurt.
