the maff sizes are the legal ones, the nfsa are recomended one's, on some species there is no legal min

couldn,t agree more george, the aim is to help the people who want to learn, at least there will be some sort of reference that just might make a newbie think before they whack a tiny whiting on the head or realise that there are size limits if just one person reads this then it will have helped

Now that is a very good idea :thumbs: might be worth posting a few more, particularly on piers or smaller venues/car parks (wouldn't make much sense down the wall at Aldeburgh..). Only problem is a lot of the t*ats that take every fish they catch can't read all that well .

putting size limits up is a good idea.....
if they read it, whats the chances on them having a ruler or tape to measure the fish..
or are they really bothered about size limits in the first place..
which brings it back to policeing it some way....

the reason i am doing it at salt house is i will be going that way this weekend and that way if i can start the ball rolling then i hope some will follow and copy and past my list or make there own and put one or two up on there beachs if half of the anglers on this site did one poster it would spread the cost to all and might just be enough to stop the odd person which over the course of a year might just save a few little fish ok we will never stop it but at least we have the upper hand on those who do it and the antis 1 nill to the anglers

Last year I investigated (thoroughly) and created an A4 Word/PDF doc that has all DEFRA legal minimum landing sizes as well as local variances (and there quite a few) for every English sea fisheries committee. It also includes NFSA recommended minimum landing sizes.

It has fin fish on one side and shell fish on the other (for those who have a pot or 2), I laminated it and keep a copy on board all the time.

I am happy to post the PDF here and/or laminate and post a copy (at cost) for anyone who wants one, if this is allowed by the moderator.

BTW I think putting these charts up at places like Salthouse is a real good idea, I fished Salthouse a lot at one time and the amount of undersize fish I saw getting taken was pretty unbelievable, it seemed like everyone did it (obviously they didn't, but it felt that way)

Anyway, agree on what the sizes are and i'll tidy this up and hopefully it'll be useful.

as far as i know the defra sizes in the first post are correct i've checked their website and the eastern sea fisheries joint committe website as well and they are the LEGAL ones, the others (nfsa)are just recomendations, some spieces don't have a legal min size
