I have a Yo Zuri Crystal Minnow. Looks very similar to the Maria Chase, but the vane is bigger, hence is dives too deep for afew of the marks I fish. Does anyone know if filing down the size of the diving vane would either keep the action but make it swim shallower, or just wreck it?

met a bloke who drills a tiny / small hole in the vane (would imagine it creates bubbles too but probably takes a bit of trial & error to get right)

After seeing how plugs with tiny differences in the shape can completely outfish plugs very similar, I myself wouldnt risk trying to modify. The plugs nowadays seem have such specific and specialised actions, you risk throwing tenner down the drain. Then again, you may just stumble onto a perfect action and take the place apart. I prefer just putting on a lure thats a shallow diver in the shallows, and a lure like the YoZuri in the deeper water.

Im always filing down my lures to make shallow divers, try a bit at a time until it works but keep the vein shape the same otherwise it will roll out of control.I use a dremel hand drill which is THE plug modifying tool, its like a dentists drill with loads of filing attachments, you can get cheaper versions from woolworths and b and q,
