I talked to my local tackle dealer today and was told a member of public had been distressed by 20.....YES 20....dead fish on the wall outside the arches at fort victoria. This is where many `clubs`do all their `weigh ins`. I have been told that the guy took a picture and is in circulation (when i get a scan, i will post it). By all accounts all the fish were smutts and one stingray (rare as rocking hoarse sh1te). Is this the final blow to match fishing? The island is always slated for mass slaughter of smutts and i dont like being tarred with the same brush as all the fools who target and kill fish that are not even worth a carrot in sea fishing prestigiousness. personally, i would call a ban on all smutts to be weighed in at comps. The damb things are hardly difficult to catch so i dont see the bother in giving the buggers a break. Anyone with me?

Very Sad:schmoll: Assume they are dumped after a "rover" type match ? Agree hounds should be banned in these type of matches but if all the anglers are fishing in a group together they could weigh and witness each others hounds and return them straight away. In our local matches if you catch a hound you have to weigh and return it before you can cast out again.

i doubt very much this happend as the to main matches last weekend where w+r and bothe the weigh ins where at newport and there where no hounds taken back and as for the stingray it was me that had it and it whent back alive about 3min after i had it and i think that the fist on been caurt in a match in about 3 years so i will like to see this pic as i think some one it just stirring sh#t because thay open the county press and saw there was a load of hound and a stingray caurt last weekend

i haven't herd of any weigh ins being held at fort vic, and as daz said the main clubs on the island do c+r, and any fish that people catch and want to keep (which is entirely up the them) are weighed in in newport. so i think you all should start getting your facts right before all this ***** starts again, it seems to me that these things are started by people who dont no the facts.
But if someone comes up with good hard evidence that this was caused by any club then i am sure that the islands fishermen and women will want this sorted as the killing so many fish is out of order.

LOL, its a bit late for that, it happens all the time, dont even bother denying it!
There are pics! You know....things taken on cameras that show real things?

Match anglers in my eyes are nothing less than scum bags....only out for what they can get with no thought of conservation...as long as their egoes are massaged who cares how many fish go to needless slaughter...i think Match clubs need to look at how to avoid this type of situation before there is nout more to catch

I'm going to close this, not because of the topic, but because the thread is based on hearsay. The best way to do this is to post the thread when you have the photographic evidence that proves that the events took place, posting before you have the evidence was always going to stir up a hornets nest considering what went on here the last time this was posted.

If the pic can be proved to be genuine, post again and discuss the topic sensibly please, an attempt to stir up differences will just result in the thread being locked or removed again.

Many thanks

Rob
