HI all,
on a recent trip to spain, we fed the mullet in a local harbour. fishing was strictly forbidden - but we were encouraged to feed the mullet. beleive me, there were thousands - many were over 10lb estimated and in great condition. you have to see this to beleive it. we planned every way to sneak a rod in, but to no avail.

nnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

the video is too big to allow onto the forum!!! even the stills are too large - can anyone help a techno phobe reduse the size so they fit? or offer space on a web site so i can email you the pics/video, you put them on your site, and post a link?

mods - can you help? I can email you the video/stills - this has to be seen to be beleived and will make any mullet angler have an accident in their flotation suit!!!!!

not worth the risk of fishing where its banned. its normally 300€ fine confiscation of your gear, and if you dont have a licence a fine for that too.
no chance of skipping without paying, as they will take you to a cashpoint or your hotel for the money.
or take your passport till its paid.

This thread cant possibly be true
Surely the Spaniards catch them the same as all other fish.
Perhaps they treat the harbours as stew ponds and trawl them at night!!!!!!!!!!!

No, they preserve their own stocks of fish and come over into the channel to plunder ours instead!

only forigners fish for mullet in spain where i used to live i had loads of decent mullet marks caught them up to 3 pounds but there was some submarines there the spanish dont look at fishing as a sport they fish for there dinner

harbours are boring to fish for mullet you are better to hoof it and travel light and go stalking them is much more funand rewarding when you catch

Captaincojones what's the reasoning behind banning fishing in those areas?

Where are you in Spain, btw?
angling nationwide in ports got stopped about 2 years ago.i heard all sorts of reasons quoted, but i dont know the concrete reason so i wont speculate.we have notices up that have the legal code number on them, so its not just a local thing.
i have freinds who used to fish the marinas in analucia, that got stopped at the same time.
you can still fish on the outer edges of the breakwaters no problem, but i agree with gary in mallorca, stalking is more fun.
im on the costa blanca near altea.:)

Interesting. There is a small port/marina at Conil de la Frontera near Cadiz where I saw them fishing some time back. That was from the breakwater. I imagine it was for safety reasons that they brought the ban in.

I'm heading for the Cadiz area when I retire. Going to wander the beaches and rocks spinning and plugging. I so cannot wait.

Reminds me of a pic I saw of someone feeding the ducks and fish in a pond that was waaaay overstocked. The carp formed a solid mass at the sloping shoreline, backs right out of the water, and one of the ducks was standing on their backs to grab the bread.
