I believe I am ready for my first visit to the beach. Got my rod, reel, rigs (pulley rig) , tackle box and bait. Been watching the videos on you tube and most mention a shock leader. My understanding of this, correct me if I am wrong, is that a stronger line is attached to your main line form the reel. The rig is then attached to to heavier line shock leader. My question is how long does the shock leader have to be ?? I am sure I will get some helpful tips so thank you in anticipation.

Hi, I’ve got a rod length and about 8-10 turns round my spool. Not sure if this is 100% correct but it’s served me well. The internet is full of knots you can use to connect the 2 lines, I used this one for the first time recently and it seemed strong enough...

The leader is on the right(single knot) and the mainline the left (the one with all the turns).
Also, tie a genie link clip to the end of your leader, makes it easier to change rigs and saves you trying to tie knots if the old digits get a bit cold on the beach:thumbsup:
Good luck on your beach session,
Tight lines !!!

Well I've been out on 2 occasions now. The first attempt off a pebble beach I lost 2 weights and a rig, my casting was not very good had no distance hence I think why I got snagged up. Second attempt off a sandy beach went a lot better getting more with casting didn't lose any equipment. Sure I had some good bites as the rod tip was jumping about but sadly no fish. Aww well onward and upward !!!

Shame, i'm sure the fish will come, little things make big differences so take care with all the little details. Perhaps try and get out fishing with somebody more experienced its amazing how quick you can learn if you keep an open mind and look carefully!

Yuki baiting tools and bait elastic are cheap and help lots in presenting black lug baits, and it makes adding a strip of squid a doddle for a cocktail bait (very effective)
