Good afternoon members.
Now with it being one of my all time favourite beaches but 1 that I have neglected for the past 2 years... but after reading some reports about it I decided to head of to cefn ciden for a session.
So called to anglers corner to get some lug and headed up there for 09.30am..
Parked up at the end of the lane before the park gates.. and headed over the dunes to be faced by a vast empty beach and a light 7 mph south easterly breeeze. After a 10min walk got down to the waves and boy did it look bassy!!
had a 1 rod setup today with a simple 2 hook pasternoster Rig. Sso baited up and baits in the water by 09.45am. It was very grey and genuinely dull looking with mist and fog blanketing the beach...
then the first "tap tap" classic flounder!! So raised the rod and tightened into it and fish on.. moments later a flounder washed up.
so quick pic then safely returned and with 1 flick of the tail it was gone!!
then the sun started to burn through the mist and fog and it was becoming a nice day.... and with the sun coming out to play the fish decided not to play, the following hour resaulted in absolutely nothing happening.. baits were coming in just as fresh looking as when they went out!!
but it was lovely now with clear skies, dog walkers everywhere. And the surf looking perfect for bass but past knowledge of this beach tells me bright sun isnt good news for this beach!!!
with high water being at 13.45pm i had just over an hour left as it was now 12.30pm.. so reeled in re baited and waded out until my plums were in the water then cast as far as i could.. i know bass are in close but thought as it was so bright the deeper water i could reach the better!!
then a very attractive woman stopped for a chat which I loved until she said she was meeting her MISSUS!!!!! on the beach..
oh well!!!!!
then as she walked of, my rod started bouncing... so grabbed hold and struck... fish on!!!!!! So kept the rod high. Line tight and minutes later I saw the shine of a bar of silver.. god id forgotten just how amazing a bass fight is.. so keeping the head up i got him into the shallows and he was landed...
a lovely bass (not huge by any means) around the 2/3lb mark... but belly was quite thin so i safely returned her...
the perfect reward for dipping my plums in the ciden.
The next hour up to high water was very quiet with baits completely untouched.. so at 13.30pm near enough top water i thought right then last cast but lets put smaller hooks on and cast in the shallows for a tidy flattie..
So thats what i did and within 10minutes, another good pull down so struck and fish on... and moments later i saw another bar of silver. In about 10 inchs of water???? Then moments later this beauty washed up
a little smaller than the other one but a beautifull looking fish.. again safely returned..
so my first return to ciden in a few hours wasnt so bad after all...
a 3lb bass
a 2lb bass.
a flounder around a pound and a quarter.
hope you enjoy the read and happy hooking everyone.
