Our annual contest between South Africa and Namibia in shore fishing is underway - these are just the 'President's' teams, the 'A' teams perform in December.

This year the event is in Namibia, so prospects of some heavy weights is on the cards. By the end of Day 1, with flat calm seas, the results were perhaps as expected - South Africa in front, despite having home water advantage. The teams are 7 anglers in each, with a manager and guide to assist moving the ladies about along a 7km stretch of beach. By the end of the day, and with one lady landing 9 sharks, the SA team were in front by 100kgs, having caught 30 sharks and 8 edibles, while the Namibian ladies could only manage 200kgs with 22 sharks and 5 edibles.

On the up side, my wife managed 4 sharks for the day, and her best was 20.8kgs, for a total weight of near 41kgs. That placed her 6th out of 14, so not bad for the oldest lady fishing.

Today they are fishing to the south of Henties Bay, and in an area that potentially can produce a lot of Spotted Gully sharks, Smooth Hounds and 7 gill sharks, so they are in with a chance of eating away at the deficit. Swell forecast is up a little from yesterday, so not a bad thing.

Total caught on the day, was nearly 3 tonnes!!!!!!!!!! The 2 Ladies teams contributed just over 500kgs of that, so not that bad at all.
