Never give up! I was ready to do exactly that at 4.30pm this afternoon. The sea was the colour of Earl Grey and saturated with horrible, stringy red weed. I took one last look at the water before leaving, convinced that this season was over. But there they were! An open group of fish cruising into the shallow waters of a small, sandy bay. The first three casts resulted in chases and nips and missed strikes. The 4th cast saw the line tighten and an irate thick lipped mullet go ballistic in the knee deep water. Took a full 30 minutes to bring it to the net. Check out the tail!

Cracking fish! :clap2:

I've not tried fly fishing but had a few mullet while float fishing with light gear. Every time I have had a bite I thought I was snagged - then the fight began. Great fighters pound for pound.

Tight lines

Hi Mate nice fish,I havew never thought of trying flies for mullet, if it is not giving away any secrets what type of flies are best?

Cheers Bill.
Apologies Bill, for not noticing your post earlier.
Proven mullet flies include.....red flexi-floss blood worm, Red tag, red headed Diawl bach, Bann special, PTN, flexi-shrimp and an unweighted brown Czech nymph, all size12. Fish them on a 12 feet fluorocarbon leader and floating line.
Cheers
