The RNLI use RIBS for close inshore work (they designed the original). If you want to be a whole lot safer in a short boat you could try a RIB.

Bear in mind that boat will need a short shaft engine. Make sure you can get one of the right size before you buy.
Anything over 40hp in a short shaft isn't easy to find-been there done that with a Microplus.
Specifically with them go over the cockpit floor fireglass with your fist and thump it-any soft spots then run-they are a wood/fibreglass sandwich and if it's soft it's going to be a lot of work.
