North wales fishing.

Hello.
My name is Bob and I have never been fishing in Uk before. I do have a yacht in Greece from which I have caught a few fish.
However I live in Chester and play golf at Conwy golf club and am thinking seriously of learning to fish. I am also thinking of buying a static caravan in Conwy as a weekend base.
I am in my very late fifties.
Could someone tell me the best way to go about doing it ,I don`t want to go and spend loads of money on things I will not, or cannot use?

I was thinking about the boat launching platform by the Conwy golf club as a place to learn to fish. Is this OK?

yes that is a good place to learn
mostly i fish the conwy river with crab bait
speak to the locals when you are down there you should pick up some useful tips

I have not bought any equipment yet, the reason i posted was to see if I could get some pointers into what to buy and from whom. Probably second hand to see if I can get the hang of it ?

Welcome to the forum.
I would go and experiment with your well thought plans at Llandudno North Shore.
Easy fishing, snag free and a good chance of a fish or two.
Bait and bits at Jokers, Rhos Point and Llandudno Pier.
I wait a bit before you upgrade your gear.

I called in to Jokers today, what a very helpful guy working there. Lot of free advise and information. Almost had to beg the guy to buy a rod and reel.
He then proceeded to give me weights tackle and bait .In all a VERY pleasant experience.

Hello all
Well I never got started the last time I posted .However things are going to change I am now retired and have bought a place in Abergwyngregyn 300 yards from the beach and river.

I still have not got a clue about fishing but would like to learn,had a look in at jokers sadly they don't appear to be trading,so where could anyone point me to buy bait and hopefully learn,how to at least dangly something in the water with half a chance to catch more than a cold?

hi bob, when i clicked onto your thread i thought i went into a time warp.. jokers i believe has shut down unfortunatley, if you google menai angling they have 2 shops .. colwyn bay and menai. there is also rhos point and llandudno pier. sorry dont know the numbers . theres easy fishing from the beach at llandudno and off the prom at colwyn bay. best over hi in the dark. once the weather warms up. i dont know how much you know about fishing so ill leave it there .. if you need any more info , will gladly help..steve.

Just a suggestion but Mr Tope is from Cheshire and is always after a fishing buddy to share on fuel costs. Why not give him a PM and see if he is up for some company some time. Worth a try anyway, he fishes up this way including Anglesey and could show you the ropes and half you fuel costs.

Unfortunately I know very little about fishing I have a couple of rods and reels bought from Jokers the first time I posted .
I would like to know where is the best place to meet people to look over their shoulder to look and learn .
As said I now live on the south side of the straits in Aber close to llanfairfechen. Bit cold to go wandering around the the place aimlessly and worrying that people think I am out dogging! And that's not trying to catch fish

In that case I recommend fishing either Holyhead breakwater or Amlwch Breakwater. I started fishing this way and there is always someone fishing there that you can start a conversation with and pick up plenty of tips and tactics on fishing. Anything else you need to know is here, just do a search on whatever you need to know and its here at your fingers tips. Anything you cant find then just ask away on here or any of the other forums and someone will point you in the right direction as we are all willing to help. Once you get the basics you can try different locations and target different fish, just check the catch report on here to know where is fishing best.

Hi all

I went over to Anglesey to have a look at the tackle shops and to Rhos point.
I still have the three rods and reels and various bit of fishing gear that i got from Joe at Jokers .One of the posters on here has kindly offer me some help in using them soon

I thought I would post this information as other newbys like me with little experience,will be braver to ask questions
