When I was a we lad, I spent many a good time catching small species sutch as bullheads , gobbies and sand smelts.
With the bull head if you hold it in your hand it will sometjmes grunt like a pig, weard or what ? I don't know of any other fish that makes a noise. Does anyone?

Gurnards (as well as looking pre-historic) grunt / croak. I believe its a way that the shoal uses to communicate to one another, but I stand to be corrected.
