Have owned a Penn Fathom for about six months now , great reel , bomb proof build , The reel though sounds really noisey when casting , bearings have been oiled , has anyone else experienced this / cured ?

what kind of noise are we talking about?

a mate`s FTH15 sounds croaky when casting ... the centrifugal break is the cause for that.

have you checked it is clean ?

My 12s were quite noisy when I got them. I put it down to the huge brake block assembly on the spool. I think the noise is balance related.

This proved correct because they are now as quiet and smooth as anything since I had them magged and removed the brake block carrier :)

cast a lot further too !!

I think penn waayyy overengineered the brakes on the fathom 12s and 15s even on 1 block !!

having said that I have a 25 that I bought for rock fishing and that is almost uncontrollable, even with all 6 blocks engaged !! Its a lot deeper spool with more weight when its full. Its now a boat reel :unsure:

Tried balancing the spool?
Also, did you clean the bearings before oiling?
