Was out with Ronnie Cambell on his boat Laura Dawn yesterday, started off with the usual Macky bashing for bait, always great fun :D then headed down the Sound of Lorn to anchor up next to the Isle of Insh.

Baited up and dropped down into 550 ft, baits were constantly getting ripped to bits so it wasnt long before one of the other guys brought in a Black Mouthed Catshark (that correct Davy ;) ) next to come in was a Conger of about 10lb
followed by a Cod of 11lb, then Ian had a nice run on his reel, and he was into his 1st Skate, didnt take him to long to bring it up 35-40 mins or so, heard him mutter bloody ell once or twice as he was bringing it up :p Ronnie soon had it in the boat, Female Skate 171lb, nice fish I did take piccys of the day but I am having probs with me digetal camera at the mo, will post them when I can sort this little sod out

John

p.s Davy Holt, sorry m8 there was no tag in the beastie :(

Hiya,

Glad to see you got at least one fish on the boat, 171lb aint bad for a first fish :)

the Black mouths are cute aint they :)

Thanks for looking out for a tag anyway, there is still a few folk tagging around Ronnies marks so there is a good chance of one turning up.

I'm grounded this weekend but will make up for it the following 3 weekends :) :)

Hiya,

Well at least you got a good laugh :)

I must admit I was a bit hesitant in doing it, a bit of the been there done it syndrome had set in. I was quite happy working away in the background until that Ronnie & Stevie picked on me :)

Now .. well I'm glad I did do it as at least we are showing how do skate fish properly, with minimal risk to the fish. The only down side is I've just been informed the 6 min segment is to consist of setting up the trace & bait and me with my fish.. which I'm not so keen on. Mind you I suppose I cant complain too much as it is the largest fish caught on camera in the UK. Incidently the fish I beat was the 194bler caught by Paul Young.. the last time I did any filming ;)

It's just a pitty about the fish I lost after over 1hr.. did Ronnie tell you about it???

:D

Yup.. it was a "special" fish alright, it's been a long time since I hooked into one like that :(
I was pretty gutted when the hook pulled out as I started to get the better of it :(

one thing though.. at least now I know I'm geared up for the next time :D

I think Ronnie is going to up grade his gear after seeing what I'm using :)
