Not bloody good is it,talk about ****ing everything up,they just don t learn do they, from all the oil spills the planet has had and still every so often they have one
A CONSERVATION group has called for an investigation after 20 barrels of oil spilled into Southampton Water from a refinery pipeline.

As reported yesterday, round three cubic metres of heavy volume gas oil leaked into the sea from Esso Fawley’s Marine Terminal while a ship was being unloaded.

Last night, the Environment Agency was continuing to investigate the incident while specialist teams were using booms and absorbent pads to contain the toxic substance.

There were fears that Titchfield Haven nature reserve could be affected and one stretch of beach between Hill Head Sailing Club and Meon Shore became a no-go area for the public after oil washed ashore.Bang goes our camping ,fishing holiday i fear at hill head for a while

isnt this the leak that happened about 2 weeks ago. nothing on the news about one last night.
hillhead was only closed for a couple of nights and i have fished there since and smoothounds were caught. all the oil is gone from there, although the weed line seemed a bit frothy

unfortunately i did hear of a report and saw some phots from around the warsash area of oil a few days ago. it was gone in a couple of tides. maybe it was a seperate spill because it was a heavier black oil.
not got a clue where it went.

20 b\arels of oil is nothing in the grand scheme of things, it's not a lot in reality... 2 tides and its gone... if it was 20000 then by all means worry.

20bbls is approx 3 tonnes so +/- 3,000 litres. If it was Vaccuum Gas Oil its heavier and messeier than diesel (gas oil) but not as messy as crude oil. In the grand scheme its not a lot but it still makes a mess of things for a while. It shouldnt happen but it occasionally does. Dont beat the oil co's up for the sake of it. You like your car/fishing gear etc.... well if wasnt for oil and petrochemicals you wouldnt have that stuff so theres a price to pay........

i totally agree.
the spill was a problem with the hose while transferring oil, and as soon as the problem occured the flow was shut off.
these things happen.
i can remember times before MARPOL (marine pollution) regulations came into force regularly pumping bilges and sullage tanks overboard.
once the MARPOL regulations came into force things soon changed
