Hi all

Iv tried the search bar facility but found nothing...
Can the off the ground casting method be used with a fixed spool? Iv never tried it before and intend to go my local beach this week to practise it, any tips or advice would be great.

Thanks

yes definitely,if your new to power casting one thing i would recomend is make sure your drag is done fairly tight to stop it slipping when you hit the cast or you'll end up with cut finger, maybe even get a finger guard/glove thingy for casting. make sure you have a shockleader on for casting, usaul 10lb per 1 oz of lead. and aim high for distance, smooth and slow, and a nice long drop will help

You can cast just as well with a fixed spool reel and you can with anything else so don't go rushing out to buy distance with a multiplier!!!!!!!!!!
Lawrecne makes very good points in post number 2

OTG comes in at least 2 different flavours
1. The Brighton or Easy Cast
and
2. The South African

1. For tips and guidance on the first look at John Holdens vids here:
https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=john holden easy cast method
Start with a drop of about 4 to 5 feet . The style doesn't need more

2. and for the South African you could do a lot worse than John French's vid here
http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/threads/200gr-practise-for-beginners-otg-and-pendulum.2203734/
Generally, for this a drop of just over half your rod length for starters and work up to one where where the weight hangs to about a foot below the spigot

You might spot them in the vids. The body wind up and un wind is important as is the movement of the left foot assuming a right handed cater. Also important are the positions of the arms and hands

Save yourself a lot of time, frustration and tears by getting yourself along to a Casting club where for a small day fee you will learn more in a few hours than you can ever hope to learn from vids and books

Casting fixedspool is the same as multiplier.
As Colin says how it feels to you is the correct drop length, if it makes the cast out of touch floppy, shorten the drop, sharp snatchy casts lengthen the drop until it feels good for you then wrap some tape round the rod to mark the spot and stick with the same drop
