A gap in the winds from the West before they turned into a blast from the East. Car frozen solid again but no fog all the way to Portland. Joined Compass (another cheetah) at the entrance to see if the mackerel were still around - one string of 3 and then the odd big one to make enough bait. At this point the fog rolled in from the NE, viz down to 100yards. On with radar, AIS and a slower trip out to the Adamant than normal. Dropped the hook at the bottom of the slope and settled to the tide with a slight NE wind against the tide.
Fresh mackerel slices, half of whole launce and squid deployed on 150lb traces, and conger provided the majority of the entertainment for the day. A couple were in the twenties, 4 were mid-teens, 5 were around the 8 to 10lb mark and the rest straps. At the peak flow a thornback got in on the action to make a change, so the net was used instead of the T-bar. The fog cleared completely by around mid-day and the breeze almost stopped.

Slack tide and sent the 3 up whiting gear down to see if any were around yet - a couple of jumbo pouting but no whiting, then a conger decided to trash the gear as the tide started again. Back to the heavier traces, with head and guts off a big mackerel, couple of savage bites and no hook left. Repeated this and a small strap chokes on the bait, dropping off at the side of the boat. Meanwhile the other rod with half a big launce for bait is gently moving downtide - a double figure small eye ray.

By the end of the day had over 20 conger, must be carpeted with them still but did give the reel drags a good working over on 12lb class gear. The best bit of the day was just outside the marina, the water erupted off port side, so cut the motors and grab the camera. 2 large dolphins (bottle nose I think) were playing around the side of the boat.
