Hi all, after catching my best wild brownie (on a river) recently I would like to see other peoples pics. It's been a long time coming and I'm just interested in how much bigger I can hope to go.

A chance for you all to show off:bb:

Here is mine, a nice fatty who was put back for another day, please excuse the photo but it was very bright and taken on phone.

Nice fish.

Best Wild Brownie i have had on the fly was 6.5lbs (i have had nothing near that size in the 14 years since) and it was well before phone/digital cameras were cheaply and freely available infact in my first ten years of fly fishing i rarely had a camera with me at all.
I have had quite a few fish of 1/2/3lb range. Size is not a big factor in fly fishing for me i just like catching wild brownies of any size (no pun intended).

As for hoping how much bigger you can go that depends on a lot of things but here is a recent example -

I fish what's classed as a 'small stream' river here in south wales (which I've only been doing for the last year, being mainly a saltwater flyfisherman - but when the weather's blowing a hooley on the coast, at least I can still wet my waders!). Most of the brownies in my river are between 6 and 10", though we do have some stonking great grayling. I fish with a 6ft 2# rod, often on my knees on water only 10-15ft wide at most, often alot less, so imagine my shock and delight when it brought forth a 19" 3lb wild brown a couple of weeks ago!! That fish was worth just as much to me as my first bonefish, or 40lb+ salmon! On my little 2wt and 1.5lb tippet it was a tense affair getting it to the net! Flippin' brilliant!

Some crackers (especially Polite's!). It was really rivers I was wondering about as I know there are monsters in the loch's.
Most of my time is spent on what is really just a stream (river is a little grand for this) and catching tiddlers which are great fun but it is nice knowing there is the chance of a biggie.

Keep em coming people.

Lovely fish there Rab. I had the pleasure to witness a loch Leven trout being caught last week, sadly not mine, but what a fish, 4.5lb.

Brilliant, if they continue to treat Leven like a commercial Rainbow hole then the recovery will soon go back the way. I have personally seen at least 20 pictures this season of Leven Trout from 2-6lbs all chapped. Some people will never learn :bones:

lovely fish that ,looks like it spent some time up the gairney or one of the queichs when it was younger.
just to add ,the loch leven fish in my pics were taken out the river leven, which used to see quite a few escapees every year.
you can go fish spotting up the burns in late october or early november after the first big late spate ,some of the fish you will see in shallow water are incredible.one of my mates used to do work experience on the breeding programme (think its stopped now) when he was training to become a keeper and said he stripped a **** fish of over 12lb.

dont tell me they have started restocking with rainbows ? i thought all had agreed that was a bad idea.should never have happened in the first place,it was a serious threat to a unique strain of trout.
