Taken stock of some frozen peeler of varying sizes. Some are approximately 50p size others are bigger. My two questions are:when targeting bigger fish with bigger hooks how big/small should the bait be? when using smaller hooks do i need to tie the crabs on with bait elastic and do i cut the crabs up?*

when using larger hooks/baits for say cod or bass use a short shank or wide gape hook. use a bait that fits nicely onto the hook not going up the line.

for smaller fish..... if casting into estuaries for flounders etc then either use a small or half medium crab. put the hook through a leg socket and out the back, twist the bait and thread it back through. do this as many times as you can. it will be fine for casting up to 80yds. for distance a neater bait wrapped to the hook with elastic will be needed.

remember though that some fish with teeth dont like elastic so you could get a few missed bites. eels and whiting are a couple.
