Hi all.

I just took a drive down to penarth pier with the wife and kids. There was a load of anglers there. seems a good place to take my 2 boys fishing. I have never fished a pier before and was wondering what bait/tackle to use and what can be caught from there. Also should you cast out from there or just drop your line in?

I have walked under this pier on a spring low and it is mostly sandy with a bit of flat rock, but hardly nothing to get snagged on. This would be a real good place to get kids started. when the codling and whiting are in it can be good fun. I have also had flatties, rocling, pouting and conger off there.
2 hook flappers would be ok
Like Marcus said mackerel and worm would be a good bet but most baits will catch here.
I would recomend to cast out a little in case you get sngged on the pier itself.
