I have sanded and filled the hull on my boat so its time to get some paint on it, i am hoping it should be fairly straight forward as its upside down and tented over.

I am planning on 2 coats of Penguard HB using the low temp addiitive..(brush & Roller), then flatted ready for the Topcoat

Has anyone got any tips, do's and donts with the Penguard.. that will save me making a mess!

Any information would be much appreciated

Cheers Jim

I don't think you need low temperature additive unless the temperature is down in the single numbers. Jotun Penguard HB should ideally be sprayed, but you can get away with a roller followed immediately by a very high quality soft brush gently brushed over (called tipping)otherwise you will get an orange peel effect. This is OK on the insides but would look naff on the outside.

I used the Penguard HB and used the brush, not the easiest way but okay. I was told by the supplier to give it a minimum of 3 coats, I ended up doing 4. It seemed to apply and stick very well and made a tidy job. The hull was simulated clinker so it was a bit awkward. I'm not sure but if I remember correctly I used 2 colors so I knew where I'd been.

Not to worried about orange peel as it will be flatted off before the topcoats, looking at the spec guide it says to use the low temp add if temps are below 10, which it may drop down to at night.. Not sure if to us it or not..

LOL I was not planning on painting at night but as it takes over 24 hours to cure i figured the temp could drop, or have I got it all wrong its just the actual temp when painting?

Give the guys at SML Paints a call on 01285862132 they are Jotun main distributors and have been very helpful to me with advice.
