Hi,
Can anyone please explain to me how the magnetic breaks are supposed to work if they are designed to slow the Aluminium spool of my Mag.

Having removed my spool bearings to clean my reel and re-oil i noticed the magnets are not in any way attracted to the spool ie the spool isn,t Ferrous so how are they to slow it down:g:

Please be aware im new to multi,s and still learning so if its really obvious im sorry.

Many thanks paul.

Another interesting point is that the faster the spool spins the stronger the current induced in it by the magnets and therefore the stronger the braking effect. So what you get is a strong braking effect at the beginning of the cast, when it's most needed, a weaker one as the lead slows down, and a slightly stronger one again as the lead accelerates on its drop towards the sea. The effect is similar to that obtained when using centrufugal brake blocks and to an extent provides automatic braking.

Cheers,

John
