hi
have a pair of 850 the only trouble i have had is with the bale arm roller ,replacement is about a couple of pounds,i use mine all the time but have now got a pair of shimano ultegras 1200 xsa which look and feel far superior to the surf masters, the 750 is a lot smaller than the 850 looks more of a spinning reel to me [save up a bit more and go for the shimanos ]
hope this helps

I've got an 850 and it has been fine up till now, getting a bit grindy, have heard of some people having problems internally, going to grease mine up and see how it goes. I keep a cheap DAM RS265 in my box, it's lightweight and does everything i need.

Shimano Aerlex 7000/8000, been using the same one for years, for Carp, Beach and now uptiding on my boat, cracking reel for the money.

I,ve had 850,s in the past....Fragile internals, wouldn,t touch them with a barge pole . RRP about £100, i don,t think anybody sold any for more than £60 and they,re not worth a tenner... Multipliers are good but Shimano every time for fixed spool.... Chris

250 miles round trip to bristol for my new penn 850 to fail, got another drag washer from penn it lasted about 10 minutes at looe bar, also had a penn captiva for spinnig it packed up also but it did see loads of use and I did catch plenty of decent fish with it, I got a grauvell z400 for 50$ so far its been much better no problems at all.

The gravell 5000 is prob the best out there in its price band. Knew a guy who was a rep for Penn and the 750 and 850 only cost £19 trade to the shops at the time so god knows what they cost to make LOL
Well - if you knew this guy before end 2007, there was only one rep.

And £19 is incorrect (I set the price!!).

But you would still be amazed at the mark up made by shops in the UK. Manufacturers on the other hand make a tiny % in comparison.

I am not going to break trade secrets, many people already know the mark-ups as they are retailers themselves, but trust me when I say that something selling for £100 in a shop today, went TO the shop at MASSIVELY less than that, leaving only a few quid for the manufacturer.
