If you need something that big then buy one. Great reel for larger fish. Casts beautifully, smooth operating and as yet seems to have Penn's indestructible construction. Here we use it with 0.40 or 0.45 line for smaller sharks and rays.

I have the 535 mag mk1 & its a lovely reel i was using it on Sunday & had forgotten just what a nice reel it is to use only thing drives me mad is the ticking & clicking when you're winding in plus the line gets between spool & frame sometimes

Thinking of purchasing one has any one got any views on them thanks in advance
Hi fishface68,got 535mag2 and its a superb reel lots of guys put down this reel thinking its like the 515 mag2 series where line gets behind the spool it doesnt ! The handle is just like the mighty penn fathom series only bigger ! Its solidly built, mag control very spot on for trouble free long smooth casts(in fact casts very well),although a true 20-30lb reel it doesnt look big on rod and is surprisingly very balanced on the retrieve coz of narrow spool(it says in specs)its very very strong n best part its its retrieve !Never felt anything like it it winds super fast hard and powerful ! Wind in this powerhouse and see your rig skim on the surface from a distance a big advantage on rough ground!-just my opinion

Hi Bill ,

glad to hear you like your 535 mag2 and that the line doesn't get behind the spool ... oh , and it doesn't get behind the spools of my 525/515mag2's either ! :whistling

to the op : i don't know the 535 mag2 but if it's anything like the 515/525 then go for it : very good reels !

I got rid of my Penn reels, 525 mags & supermags, I had 6 of them, very good reels but once I tried a Saltist I realised how agricultural the Penns were, the Saltists are a much better reel, smoother, stronger and they hold more line than the Penn equivalent. The Saltist 20 holds the same amount of line as the 525 but is the same size as an Abu 6500, the Saltist 30 is the same size as the 525 and holds more line than the 535! I have my Saltists magged and wouldn't go back to a Penn.
