Just orderd two of theses reels and was wondering will I need to do any tuening to them before I use em or can the be used stright out of the box
I am using two ABU6500 C3 reels at the moment.

presumably they are for fishing, so yes straight out the box, start on full mags first.

Possibly yes, mine came packed full of grease which made the reel very slow indeed even with the mags fully off.

I had to open it up clean off all the grease, and clear out the bearings plus re-oil to get it running fast enough.

Don't knock it! A batch of penn reels were coming out virtually grease free a couple of years ago. Mainly captivas - there was a thread on here about it.

I used mine for the first time on saturday and found i was continuously getting birdsnests. the magnets were set to a pretty neutral position

first time i have ever used a multiplier and I assumed the magnets would completely stop the spool revolving, seems I was wrong

You need to set the magnets on full then back them off a click at a time till you feel its getting near nesting time, there not designed to completely stop the spool just slow it down and its no good guessing where the magnets should be if you never used the reel before

i used abu mags and then bought mag xtras.through trial and error i found that the penns perform better if you dont load them with as much line as the abus.also check the slidey mag adjuster before each cast as they mysteriously work themselves off.otherwise both great reels.

Have a read of the tuning guide; once the spool tension is setup the 525's are normally fairly docile...

upgrade the bearings ive got one was told to do this abec2 bearings are better mine were supplied with reel along with a couple extra magnets very easy to change do it in ten minutes i've been told by doing this upgrades it to the super mag
