ocasionally i fish off a high jetties where i just want to drop my rig off the side. in these situations the 13ft of my beachcaster is an inconvenience. many rods advertised as "pier rods" seem light weight.

my question is: would you recommend an uptide rod for the purpose?

thanks.

That's what I use, an uptider. Easier to cast and move around, easier to carry too. The extra length of a beachcaster is sometimes useful to keep the end tackle away from the pier when winding up the side, but is a pain in the wotsit otherwise.

Used my 10ft uptider off a pier with good success.

Also caught a 21lb+ shore conger with it off a rock ledge about 40yds out, awesome fight when i finally got the bugger off the seabed LOL!!!
