There are loads of outboard powered boats on moorings that don't get flushed - mine included - there's simply no way of doing it. Some boats in our harbour have outboards that have gone 20 years+ without being flushed (apart from when they come out for the winter) and are still going strong.

I think your wrong there, i can flush mine. Its like i said, if there is a water supply on the pontoon. And its a modern engine, you can flush them throught the tell tale with the engine on tilt. As long as you only leave it tick over, and dont rev the engine.

I didn't explain fully, I should have said 'without having a 200 metre hosepipe to hand, I can't flush my engine' - I was referring to boats in harbours, swinging moorings etc rather than marinas where it's the water supply that's the problem - my outboard, like many, does of course have a flushing port.

We Have heard of and are in the process of making a portable flushing system which we could use on the beach for warming the outboard engine up prior to launching.

A 25ltr tub a fitting to fit through the plastic drum to atatch a hose to and a set of muffs or in the case of my engine a hose fitting to crew into tell tale of engine...just fill drum up at home and take it with you and you can use it to flush your engine while away from a hosepipe,..we wanted one to use when away from home on holiday at the MoG,seems like a good Idea...Has anyone made one and have pics of it.

This method was mentioned a few months ago. It appears a good concept but can it last long enough to heat the engine?

You do know they weigh over two tonnes don't you?
I have one (marina-based) and getting it on and off a trailer on a nice sheltered slipway wasn't my idea of fun - there's a lot of boat to catch a wave and cause damage.
I beach launch & that is exactly what put me off the Pirate. I opted for an 18ft Raider Wheelhouse & can beach launch her on my own if need be.

I have a Pirate 21 fitted with a Honda 225. I do not flush the engine after use and my local Honda service centre has told me that this should not be a problem. The engine has 3 years to go on its warranty, so obviously I am aware that not flushing could be a potential problem. May be the modern engines have special finishes that help prevent furring up of the water ways?
Also, many commercial boats stay on floating moorings for many years without flushing their outboards.
As for Beach launching a Pirate 21, I suppose it all depends on the steepness of the beach and of course the size of the waves! I have had no problem launching on a slipway in Poole harbour, but that is very different from a proper beach.

Yes, but no pics as I'm away from home. I beach launch and made one.

Its a 25 litre water container that has a hoselock water butt fitting I put at the bottom of the container. So with a short bit of hose I can either flush the engine or flush the brakes through the "hub flush" system.

I tend to put the water container on the top of my landrover to keep a decent head of water, and you must remember to take the lid off the container or no water flows.
