Taking my son (6) fishing thursday, we have been to southend, clacton and walton piers. So far 1 v small bass and and an eel at tilbury. Dont have a clue what we`re doing apart fron bit of advice from tackle shops. Any ideas where to take him and what to do to get a keeper, dont want him to give up on this as we are having great fun. Know you guys must get sick of newbies but need help and learned loads from your info, based in Chelmsford and can travel bout hour and half before he gets hump.:help:

not a silly question if you dont know ,i found walton pier and most of the surounding areas clacton frinton etc was always best when the tide starts going out (on the ebb) you can get a tide table from most fishing shops or boating shops £1 usally also if you can stand the are we there yets, aldebourgh is well good and you can park right where you fish need a tripod though about hr and half from you let us know how you get on,stu:fishing1:

Hi Mate

Had the same problem with my little one- he is 8 now. All they want to do is see fish, I know.

I found that after a few times he got bored very quickly, so didn't take him next time and I caught a nice bass. That got his attention again.

The other time I particularly remember is being down at Dengemarsh with him on a cold winters evening both wrapped up well, but he started within 20 mins of being there. Soon after the whiting started coming in, double shots most times and I had real difficulty getting him off the beach at the end of the sesh.

All I would say is persevere. As soon as they see a couple of fish coming in they get the bug big time. oh and dont forget his DS
