went out on the boat from colwyn bay for 6 hrs. with no mackerel around at all to feathers had a few sessions on the bottom with lug ..........the rather predictable result was dog after dog after dog..........did chase after three large flocks of birds diving into the water but no repeat of an earlier trip which led us to a school of big bass...........lots of porpoise around .two came up 10 ft from the boat and then swam under us...superb views. Also the big gatherings of birds included manx shearwaters, gannets, guillemots, razorbills, etc.all of which were happy to allow us very close up views. So with the great weather as well all in all not a bad day out but had to raid the freezer for dinner.Spoke to three other boats ,two of them had caught 2 macs each and the third had been way off the great orme and managed about 20.

with he great weather it was back out again today but decided not to chase the birds 2 miles out ,but to try close in (about 100-200yds) off angel bay on the little orme but still in 13mtrs of water.much better result than yesterday with 15 big macs (no ..not hamburgers).... and 7 pollock and a small gurnard. After experimenting with various colours/types......we found white feathers to be by far the most productive......

Always something out there to make a boat trip worthwhile I reckon, even if the fish aren`t playing - porpoise so close to the boat would stick in my mind far longer than a few mackerel, must have been terrific.
