Hi i'm not new to fishing but for all the years i have been fishing use the simplest of rigs which i have discovered maybe the cause of me loosing so much gear.I have been looking at pennel rigs and pulley rigs.
The pulley rig shows a swivel attached to mainlne ..would that be say 50lb leader or 25 to 30 lb main line ,the line connected to your hook and weight would that be 15 to 18lb line or the same as your mainline 25 to 30lb? Would you be able to use pennel style 2 hook set up on this rig.

The section of line carrying the weight should be as heavy as your shock leader (as it is a continuation of it to the lead) and the hook length as heavy as is required for the conditions. Yes you can use a Pennel set up on this

For fishing the Fife rock marks I use 35 lb mainline and 60 lb for the pulley part of the rig with a 30 lb amnesia snood. I also use 20 lb rotten bottom weaklink to my sinker. When losing gear I either lose the sinker if it becomes stuck, sometimes saves a fish though, or just the hooks if they become snagged. Some marks you get away with pennels but if its really snaggy I use single 6/0 baitholder hooks. If I am not losing tackle I generally do not catch anything. I think tackle loss has to be accepted as part of the bigger picture when fishing these marks. It helps if you buy in bulk and make your own rigs and weights. Using gripl eads also seems to help when its snaggy. I have also found reels with a fast retreive are a must and don't pull you line tight when you cast out. Last trip out I lost about 10 rigs and 6 weights but I did get a couple of decent fish.

I am used to loosing tackle it's all part of fishing which is why i'm glad i do make my own rigs and weights. The idea of rotten bottom weak link seems to make sense.

Thats crazy,if you use say 60lb for the body, or half the body when power casting, why does the other half, the hook length, which is 20-30lb not break then?

look on the wsf articale ''rough ground cod pulley rig''for ideas on pulley rigs:thumbs:!

I have been using a pulley pennel rig pretty much the same as the one in the WSF article but use a bait clip link at the bottom. My problem is that the baited hooks release from the clip during the cast. Why is this?
