Hi,
I am heading out tomorrow morning to use a pair of Century Kompressor SS rods for the first time (if truth be told it will be the first time I have fished the shore with more than one rod at a time!)
I need someone to let me know if the two sections of each rod are matched pairs. I want to carry both tips sections in a bag together, so that I can leave the butt sections reeled up and ready to go when I get on location.
Will I have to put an ID mark on one pair so that I can keep them matched? Or are the sections interchangeable?
Thanks in advance...
Colin.

yes they are matched to the butt - i put a spot of tippex on one tip and butt to identify the pair, but they also have a century number on each half so you can tell if you check the numbers

He's right ... just took delivery of a new Komp S today, and I just had a look. They have changed the numbering system (extra digits), and the font size. It was so small I need my specs to read it.

mine have that tip tape from crazyplums on the two sections just makes it easy to identify,i dont like century seats so i tend to bolt on the reel clamps and leave them on and carry the tip sections in a bag

yes, i have replced the tippex with a thin wrap of retro tape recently- easier to see at night and the tippex keeps getting worn off.

Electrical tape works cool.

Where is the tip section numbered? I've just got two TT LDs and I can clearly see the number for the butt but not the tip section.

Well I got there, and just used the numbers to ID the rods.
I was only really checking out the places where I could fish yesterday so didn't even bait up, just had a few casts to make sure I could still do it! Those are some powerful rods, much better than the old Shakespeare ones I was using 20 years ago. Found a great spot down at Cabo Ledo, about 3 hours south of Luanda (Angola), so I am planning to visit there again next week for an all day session.
Its great to be back, so thanks for the advice lads :)

Send us some photos, Colin, if you can. From your past descriptions, I wouldn't want to live there, but I guess a lot of us would love to see what is like. Tight lines!

I will get some photos next week ...watch this space!
Living here is pretty good now, with most things available at a price, and I have even found a couple of decent tackle shops in Luanda, mostly loaded with Portuguese Hiro gear. Its certainly a different place now than when I worked here in 1982 during the civil war, and as for fishing, most of the places outside the city are virgin territory, so I've got a lot of exploring to do. There are some great lodges at Rio Kwanza, so me and my mate plan to visit there for a weekend and leave the wives supping G & T's on the verandah while we head off to find some good spots :)
We also have a South African Satellite TV feed here (which we also got in Indonesia when I lived there, SS1, SS2 ...SS7 sports channels), and there is a regular programme called ESA (Extreme Sports Angling I think) where the guys visit some remote locations around the world. They have a great series on Angola, covering both boat and shore fishing. Good programme if you can get to see it.
Cheers,
Colin.

I put up a few pictures that I took of the Cabo Ledo beach area yesterday. Also one when we were heading out boat fishing from Luanda.
I'll try to add to them with some more fishing related pictures when I get them.
35 degrees Celcius, Saturday afternoon and hardly a soul in sight ...you don't find that very often!

Put a similar question to Century a while ago when I discovered the numbers didn't match on my rod. Simon Chilcott replied saying that these numbers are used mainly in the manufacturing process to control quality and provide traceability in the event of any failures in the process. The numbers show that the sections have met all the criteria for their quality standards, and make no difference to the action of the rod, if they are paired differently. Therefore, if you have 2 similar rods, you don't have to pair the numbers up each time you use them. The only time you will need to pair the sections is if you decide to sell one of the rods.
