I know some fish are spooked by lights on the beach at night but would a red light on a head torch be visible to a fish? I know that in navy ships etc they have red lights when one a war footing. Anybody know the technical stuff behind this?

I know that on some hunting lamps you can add a red filter to prevent spooking rabbits, giving yourself a bit more time to get them in your sights.

red lights are used on ships at night as it does not effect night vision nearly as much as white light. not sure about the fishy view of things though.
fishing at close range for bass i try and make sure that there is no light visible
i bait up with a head lamp facing away from the water keep low and quiet.
