Removing a reel seat ?

Picked up a rod the other day and some numpty has what looks like superglued a reel seat on it, its too high up the blank for my liking and i want it removed so i can replace it with either a sliding one or coasters. Someone mentioned heating it up to remove it?? But i dont want to damage the rod while doing so as thinking a bit or fire might do that.

Any help much appreciated.

Try holding it above a boiling kettle in the steam for a few minutes - depending on the type of glue it's been put on with it should loosen it so you can get it off. (if using an electric kettle, leave the lid off the kettle and it'll stop it switching itself off)

Failing that you could always try a hot air gun on the low setting...

Failing that make a corkscrew cut up the seat with a hacksaw blade, making sure you don't go into the blank and seat should peel off...

Good luck...

Thanks for the super quick reply there wooky ;)

Kettle didnt work, no heat gun in the house, hack saw done the job without any damage to the rod. nice one :D look like its been araldited (spelling) on there, i will clean it up, get some rod shrink wrap stuff and redo the the rod, bobs your uncle, sorted
