A cracking day's fishing on the res yesterday, sunshine all afternoon and the fish on the feed. Marred for me by my git of a badlington running off for an hour and getting stck somewhere, as I could hear him howling. Judging by the state he came back in I'd say he was down a fox hole, so no more running free there for him.
So back to the important bits, I had Sonicbaits 'salted nut crush' groundbait, sweetcorn and mixed red and white maggots. Both rods set up for ledgering, the quiver tip with a method feeder to a size 16 and the stalking rod with a cage feeder and a hair-rigged sweetcorn on size 12 hook. Mick was using 4mm halibut pellets and maggot, one rod ledgering and one on a float.
We were set up by 1230, caught our first fish within 5 minutes and it just didn't stop!

The water where we fished was too shallow to use a keepnet without the fish getting stressed, so all went straight back in. Roach to 2lb, bream to 4lb one gudgeon and one perch. then a take on Mick's pike rod, but he failed to hook up, straight back in with the herring and he was in! A beautiful pike, just shy of 14lb. Half an hour later I thought I'd hooked one of the elusive carp that live there as my rod had a tremendous bend, after 5 minutes I got back a very sorry-looking roach, slashed to pieces.

Went to have a look at this place and it's a shame back road is closed.
You mean by the waterworks? Some people do park there and hike in but I wouldn't say that was a good place to leave your car. When my friend was using the paddocks in there for temporary grazing we had undesirables sniffing around the truck. Parking is one of the main issues, you've got the choice of leaving your car in isolation that end, or limited parking in a residential cul-de-sac the other.

An evening session at the reservoir, without the dogs. Mick opted for plugging with a couple of his mates, I decided to fish for roach with maggots and put out a livebait.... Mick got 2 jacks of about 3 and 5lb. I got a staedy stream of nice roach and a hybrid. Then just as we were packing up, off went my pike float! A bit of a fight and I landed a lovely fish of 9lb 7oz. Pristine condition and a wonderful ending to the session!
