best rig for mackies(i take it by rig u mean terminal tackle, not rod and reel?)is feathers for many, single smallish lure for singles.
as for bass,a running trace fished from low water up to around 1-2 hrs b 4 high(i tend to find the bigger bass go off the feed around this time, and the schoolies take over)then fish high down to low pref.with live bait such as pout,if you have a pier near you that has an abundance of pout, catch these first and keep in a bucket with a pump(not 2 many tho)fish the downside tide of the pier, falling tide is best i find.if it's rod &reel ur on about, then buy the best u can afford, seperately if need be.
