im not exactly the greatist caster and altho ive been gettin away with it for the moment, it is still a good weapon to have in your armour.
who else in the sussex area fancies improving they're casting distances and who else just fancies blasting a lead into the horizon and measuring how far it goes.
i know DOUBLESHOTDAMO is into his casting and a few others on here.
so my suggestion is this!!!

how about we find a suitable location and have the occasional casting meet.
i will try and look for some kind of measuring tape or summin and with a mix of amature and expirenced casters, the amatures get to learn how its done properly and the pros get to see just how far they're casting latley!!

so whos up for it??
doubleshot, mr b, anyone else??

yea same be a laugh :D

there is a bloke that does it already up on the downs. yea if we can find a field that is about 200 yard it would be good :D

JD
i phoned him a few weeks ago and he said 25 quid for a session, which i think is reasonable for some expert advise on something which in its own right is an art form!
but wots the point if we can just every now and then meet up and learn off one another!!

just need a nice stretch of green! i know alot yous tennis balls as weights
not sure whether this gives you a good reading on your cast say with a 4,oz
lead! im gana do some slinging this sunday meet and just
put a bait elastic stopper on at the biggest distance to give me an idea!

i admire your keeness, but if you go ahead with your idea please give safety PRIORITY.--- Ihave seen crack- offs land at distances up to 400 yds so you will need a field in much longer than you expect to cast .
Do not cast in the direction of anyone or anything that you can harm or hurt.
MAKE sure that you keep along safe distance behind the person casting.
have good quality shock leader with a good link between sinker and shock leader and avoid swivels.
It is impotant, if possible to try to get somebody with know-how to help get you started.
Have fun.BUT! DO NOT TOLERATE anybody doing anything silly or it may end up in trajedy .
Ihave only skimmed the surface of what would be the norm at a good casting event, but if you decide to go ahead , i hope this helps.ENJOY-WITH-SAFETY:g:

Ok Slayer will bare it in mind. I'm not sure how much use it will be for me as I don't use multipliers and don't have a pendulum casting capable rod but it would be good to have a go on others rods/reels to see if it's worth me buying one.

I used to cast in the field next to my house and could cast to about 135yds with a 5oz plain lead and 15lb main line. I reckon I could get more distance with braid but rigs and bait do reduce distance by quite alot.

I use fixed spool reels and have justgot myself some braid to try out. . . . .

Camber is a bit closer to me than Shoreham way. I reckon the safest place to do it is on a beach at low tide and cast seawards so if you do get a crack off it's got more chance of sailing out to sea than going through some ones window.

Hi all, I'm up for it for defo.......in fact i got the downs right behind me and I've just started using the ploughed field behind me......its about 600m long (to the centre dirt track )and plenty wide enough for safety .......best when dry though or you will need wellies.
My last measured cast was 197.4 but that was OTG with my trusty Moonraker X.....so now i got the Greys I'm itching to get 1 measured........One thiing i will say for everyones saftey is use a leader 10lb stronger than normal eg. 5oz > 60lb......6oz > 70lb............looking forwards to it

Interested to see how this one works out lads. I'll not be joining you as I'd be too embarrassed to discover just how short my casting really is these days. A dodgy back, some weird kind of balance thing and misplaced timing seems to have left me with a casting action that resembles a loony fending off a wasp attack.

when i first joined our casting club many years ago,i did with toungue in cheek[n.w.s.casters],but after seeing my distance going up i got the bug, and started to get the urge to compete.--when i first hit 200yds it gave me a buzz that i will always remember.-- after a lot of good tuition and time spent, i became an instructor during which i hit my best but modest chuck of 230 yds[well into my 60s].--now my aim is to better that next spring when i am 70
i have met many good casting/fishing mates over the years and hope you lads do the same
