I'm off there i a few weeks time, can anyone give me any tips?

Went to cuba last year and found fishing from a peddalo using 1oz lead-heads and fresh tiger prawn to be deadly. Had loads of fish around the 3 lb mark and even hooked a baracuda on reteving a smaller fish..

Thanks in advance

Have you tried the site's Search this Forum facility yet?

Although there're likely to be specific replies it might be worth trying that from The International Angler forum's home page using a key phrase of say Puerto Aventuras. There're a number of previous posts there, and in its sub forums, covering tactics and catches on the Mayan Riviera that might be of help.

Hello there mate, I'm staying at the El Dorado Seasides Suites in Riviera Maya. Do you no the place??
I'm thinking of taking a selection of surface and shallow plugs and spinners.
Really want to hook up to some larger fish than i did in Cuba and also planning to do another Charter trip on a boat as well.

A friend of mine stayed at the same hotel last year and had small jacks, snapper and a respectable barracuda (15lb or so) on lures from the hotel beach.

He also caught a serious dose of Montezumas revenge - but that's another story.

Nice one Steve, do you know if he was using surface plugs or shallow diving?
I can see by some of the pics on Trip Advisor that there is a rocky outcrop like pier just down from the hotel. Was he off there when he caught the fish??

Hi mate,,,,nobody of my friend have been fishing that site coz is far from playa del carmen and the security guards don't let you fish in front of the hotel coz people swimming, but in the morning and in the ivenings is the best time,,,and maybe you can walk a bit just to be alone and fishing in peace.

try to use ligth spinning equiment and surf lures could be a good idea coz it looks shallow.

hope this helps mate.

He caught the fish mostly on Maria Angel Kiss and the cuda on a Yo-Zuri mag popper.

I don't think that he dared to go down as far as the rocks, due to the requirement for a maximum 100m dash to the nearest bog and judging from the photos he showed me a lot of his fish were caught in front of the hotel during the daytime.

BTW - He wasn't the only one to get the sh1ts.
Avoid having ice in your drinks:nono::nono:

Cheers

I spend a lot of time in the winter, at Puerto Aventuras, which is near the hotel where you are staying, but most of my fishing is from a boat. If you have a car and travel south past Tulum towards Punta Allen, there are miles of deserted beach and when snorkeling there I have seen huge Barracuda, Grouper and plenty of other species. I am not sure if you can fish from the beach at your hotel, but you can fish from the rocks and the entrance to the marina in Puerto Aventuras (I caght a thirty pound Ray there last winter). If you want to charter a boat, I can recomend Ruben, he has his own panga, knows the sea there like the back of his hand, is a dive master and a great guy. I have caught plenty of fish with him, on his boat and mine. His number is: cel. 044 984 138 8803. casa, 984 206 28 51 tel him Johnnie with the Boston Whaler (nauti girl) recomended him.

my number is 0033 555 686023 if you need any more info..good luck.

Hi Ron, no I am not there at the moment, its not cold enough here yet!
Just go to Puerto aventuras for tha day you will love it, spend the afternoon there, take the family ther are dolphins, manatee, seals there, the charter boats come back about 5 pm great atmosphere seeing whats been caught, I love it! the marina is full of beatifull boats, mostly private owned, but a lot of charter boats as well, ask for Ruben everybody knows him. You might be better to have two afternoons rather than one day, he wont mind, he speaks good english and is not as expensive as capt. Ricks which is the main charter in the marina.
I caught this Sail on my last day at the Puerto, last April.....in Rubens panga boat,
thats him in the picture with his nephew.
