Im looking for a bit of advice
I went fishing friday for the first time in I dont know how long. The rod I have has a butt extension for fishing with the reel down the bottom of the butt.
The extension was such a tight fit, that I decided not to use it, and moved the reel around 12" up the butt to be able to reel in as i didnt want to damage the rod.
I guess that like the main joint in the rod, the joint between the butt and extnsion might wear in over time, but is there anything I can do to help this along the way, as i dont want to damage the carbon in the butt section of the rod. :doh:
Would giving it a very light tickle with some 2500 girt wet and dry for example help the situation or does anybody have any ideas.

Just a personal opinion. I had the same issue with some reducers i had a few weeks ago. I did just sand them down with a fine grid emery paper around the reducer rather than along it. And they now work a treat. Don't think you need to be as careful with a reducer as you would a spigot. But still advise you take care and only remove a little at a time. And test fit a lot. When i had fished i polished the area i had worked on to make a slicker joint Also if nessessary mark which rod which reducer goes with.

I only have the one of them so identification isnt a problem. I was curious as to if anybody else had the same problem. I might give it a go then with a bit of fine wet and dry. The thing is, the butt of the rod has no reinforcement around it like the main joint has, and the last thing i want is to split the butt of the rod blank, as it wasnt hugely expensive, still over £150 though, but I really like the rod. If a crab farts anywhere near a bait you can see it, ad it casts lovely lol
Going to invest in another reel at some point though, as I hit a couple of snags at the weekend and trying to get any sort of distance from a half empty multiplier doesnt work lol

If you are worried about the lack of reinforcement then just put a whipping on the end and epoxy it, reducers are supposed to be only used when reeling in so reinforcement isn't necessary

I know its only for reeling in, but i was concerned about splitting the rod when i pushed the extension into it. But yes, a whipping would sort that out. Thank you for the idea :thumbs:

just sand the reducer down , no problem its only for retrieving your gear!!

Not all rods do have a reinforcement ring. My Zziplex don't an it isn't an issue. Providing your not twatting it in with a mallet. It's unlikely your rod will be damaged in anyway by just slipping a reducer in and out of it. The reducer doesn't come under any real pressure does it

No it doesnt need banging in, not quite lol, i was a bit worried about damaging the rod if it wasnt pulled in or out dead straight. But I'll sand it down a touch and see how it goes :fishing:
