Hi,
Ive been given an old zzipplex beachcaster (type unknown) which is at present set up for a multiplier, i am going to re furbish it and give it to my son, but i want to set it up for a fixed spool reel,
So which side of the blank do i put the new eyes? same side as they are now (opposite the spine) or on the spine side?
i'm struggling trying to get a determined answer

Cheers!

Alan

There is no definitive answer, both arguments about which side to mount guides are valid. Most depend on how the particular angler wants the rod to behave, how they cast and what fishing they are doing.

assuming your son has not yet reached the 6 ft tall and 13 stone age yet i would ring the rod on the soft side.
suspend the tip section between 2 level surfaces (chair backs?) and the tip will settle with a slight curve . fit the rings on the inside of the curve for the most forgiving action
