Hi All.

Tried the different methods of applying Bondaseal not happy with the results.
Does anyone know what to use to clean out a spray gun after use with this.
As i have tried cellulose thinners (on a brush) no good on the tin it gives no advise with regard to cleaning brushes ect after use.
must get a better finish by spraying but don't want to ruin my gun doing it.

Thanks.............Mick.

Hi,

I'm just starting out on my rod building journey so I am learning by reading Stan's sticky and other posts on here and also making a few mistakes along the way!

I have done up my 1st (35 year old) fly rod recently and today have Bondasealed 2 x Veals Channel Specials which I'm looking to rebuild.
The fly rod I tried with a sponge brush in the rod turner and moved brush down the rod but found out I got a light spiral ridge by doing that so had to flatten it back with wet and dry and try again.

Today I used another sponge brush (about 1.5") with the rod section in the turner. I put lots of Boandaseal on the brush to use it as reservoir and just held it lightly against the rod whilst it turned a few revolutions. I then took the brush off the rod and re-positioned it so it just overlapped the last bit. It only took 3 or 4 minutes to do a section and the results looked nice and flat.
I did another coat 1/2 an hour later whilst it was still tacky as I wanted a heavier coat on the blank. Don't know if it needed that, but it also went on OK and there are no streaks.

I bondasealed my first rod yesterday with a large sponge i bought from halfords for 50p. I cut the sponge up into about 1 1/2" squares and applied it. I let it harden for about 8 hours gave it a light wet and dry then applied a second coat. I also applied it in 1 1/2" sections. You do have to be quick as it goes tacky very quickly and never go over it when wet or it does streak.

Bondaseal is nasty stuff! Make sure you have better than good ventilation when using it. I don't bother cleaning brushes, I use 'em once and throw OUTSIDE, not in the local WPB- wastepaperbin. The solvent for Bseal is styrene monomer, which under certain circumstances can polymerise, so a cartridge facemask is not a bad idea to ensure you don't get what I have now got - asthma.
