Just out of interest, what rods and reels do you use , and in you're opinions whats the best combination for beach fishing TAFFY.

use a Mag 525 & Penn Venom 13ft beachcaster (quite stiff rod/less trouble when the wind blows up), on piers and boat use an abu 6000 and abu 9ft uptider.

hi JD, as all my sea fishing is done from my own boat , and usually theres only 2 of us on the boat, i use 2 or 3 abu uptiders with okuma multipliers which do the job ok, reels are then loaded with 20lb b/s line and a long 60lb leader tight lines .......TAFFY.

Its been a while since my last boat trip but i think line strength would be about the same. do you use wire traces on your boat down aberthaw? I know the cod traces i use are about 40lb braking strain.
