Running your motor on ear muffs

Ran my engine today for the first time in six months. It fired up easily enough after cleaning one of the petrol connections that had corroded up a bit and was letting it suck air. It ran nicely but could only get a dribble of water out of it, do you think the impeller could have been corroded also or do they normaly struggle to pump water on ear muffs, this was the first time I had ever run it on ear muffs.
I am going to change the impeller anyway so does anyone know where to get them from for a Suzuki dt55.
Cheers Steve.

As Brian has said make sure the pee hole isn"t blocked. I use a baiting needle or thin piece of wire.
I am not sure about older Suzuki"s but newer ones are known for having a very small diameter pee hole.
An impeller change wouldn"t be a bad idea either as the motor has been standing quite a while, not hard to do & not expensive.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks guys, poking a bit of wire up the outlet was the first thing I did. I even pulled the pipe off the inside and blew up there. It seemed pretty clear. I read somewhere about a thermostat, does it have to get warm first to let the themostat open like a car does ?
I won't run it again untill it has been replaced now.

I would still change the impeller Steve for piece of mind.
As the engine has been sat for quite a while the rubber vanes can tend to "set" to a curve & don"t press on the pump housing as they should to pump water properly.
If you have a barrel you could run the engine in I would also try that as some motors just don"t run well on muffs.

i had a engine that only trickeled water out until the themostat opened not sure if every water cooled outboard engine is the same the themostat could be stuck if you havent flushed it out with fresh water salt builds up and corrodes the housings with them been made out of alloy you can buy some stuff called (no corrode) never used it myself as my boat is kept on a trailer and gets flushed out after every trip tightlines Alain

I have now located a water pump kit but they are closed now so will order one on Monday. If the same problem occurs I'll try it in a barrel.

Thanks but I would have thought there is not much salt build up in there, I moore in Cardiff bay which is fresh water, so it gets about 15mins of flushing just to get back to the pontoon every time it goes out.

Thanks for the help guys it always pumped plenty of water before, used to take about 10 seconds after starting after being left for a week or so, but pumped all day whilst it was running. I just did'nt know if it was because it had been sat 6 months or weather it had seized or something. So it will not run again untill it has been replaced.
Oh and Snuggtopz I knew it was running because I also had my xray glasses on and I could see the pistons moving :punk:

yeah my enbgine is a bit odd doesnt have a pee hole like most engines just spurts water out the back i know the impeller is good as it was changed in may and the engine runs fine doesnt get hot so i just put it down to the fact the leg likes to be completely wet lol
