Hi all,
had a slow day out on the breakwater, got better towards high water, ended up with 12 doggies a small codling of bout a pound and a pouting that weighed just 2 pounds! see piccie! my poor old dad had a single whiting. used yellows, blacks, squid n sandeel. not bad in the end.
however, and i i apologise for sounding blunt and a bit annoyed here, if the two lads are reading this who fished next to me, please learn to fish properly on there, there is no need to pendulum/distance cast off the outside wall there, the more line in the water the more pressure from the tide, you cut through my old mans line twice and dragged him into god knows how many snags. you had the right weights lads but totally wrong wire configuration for that tide out there. i showed one of you how to have the short anchor type wires, but you chose to ignore it. those big springy things are no use and just tumble over n over in the tide. my dad n i were fishing straight in front of us using those gemini 8oz weights with the short anchor wires and can in any tide. the idea of them is to pull the weight into the seabed. big springy wires dont even allow the weight to sit on the bottom. I really am sorry for sounding miffed but as those who know me, i am a lovely bloke really! ;) , no hard feelings lads. :)

yep,nick is a nice fella(even if he say's so himself!!!!:lmao: :lmao: )

pedulum casting on the breakwater????:uhuh: :uhuh:

i've had to have word's with people before on there when they can't hold in the tide.if they were to listen and take notice everybody would have a better day out on the wall including those that need telling!

take nick's advice as he has got it spot on.

well done on your day's fishing mate,i've been doing me garden:yucky: out monday though:) .....dave.

can i point out a couple of things here:
1. we, myself and my mate gaz were the 'lads' in question.
2. i have fished the breakwater many times - i think i know what im doing. I've been fishing for an amount of years, i'm always learning. perhaps you should practice what you preach??
3. I definately wasnt pendulum casting - i dont know how to its something. a swing is not a pendulum. Distance casting with a 210g lead, with fixed wires, 70lb shockleader, 20lb line, mags screwed down is not possible. we were hitting 60yards tops.
4. We were tight against the wall, (wall to our left) the tide runs left to right and therefore we were letting large bows of line out after our cast. - because you chose to fish where you did you kept casting ito them bows tripping our leads.
5. i doubt very much that we cut throught you dads line, i have seen that happen with braid not with 20lb mono -but if we did i sincerely apologise, but you imply that we did that on purpose.
6. you and your dad actually moved closer to us for some reason half way though the day.

i dont know why you didnt just come and speak to us about it rather than ranting off on a forum??
i actually had a half decent day until i got home and read this nonesense. Nice bloke or not i dont care, your attitude on here stinks, especially when you knew who them 'lads' were cos you spoke to me.

GLAD YOU GOT OUT THERE OKAY, I PROBABLY PASSED YOU ON MY WAY OUT BOAT FISHING, HAD 6 COD BETWEEN 4 AND 6LB, PLUS ONE 10LB SMOOTHY, LOADS OF DOGS AND POUTS.MOST FISH WHEN THE TIDE EASED NOT A LOT IN THE RUN.
CHEERS DISCOVERY.

.as i said mate no hard feelings, i didnt want to say names. yep you went through his line a good'un twice, he didnt want to say anything. he is the most timid bloke around. line when run over another will cut through like a knife through butter. apology accepted.
.i have no doubt about your ability mate, you both are clearly and obviously very competent. i showed gaz how to have the wires. we were holding fine with 'em. its why gemini supply the uptide extension so the tide can press the weight in with the wires. having them spread wide is ok for pulling from snags not for holding bottom in that tide.
.mate, we were 30 meters apart still, how much room or how many pegs do you want? i would fully expect you to be cheesed off with me had i pulled you in 15 times. we swapped round cos he had the lad the other side doing the same thing but to a lesser degree when the tide was flowing the other way. you were both launching it out. we were uptiding too, so to speak but your lead was just swinging round in the tide.
:)

dan (Mudway) is a real genuine bloke and a very good angler and i no for fact he no's how to fish the breakwater, if u dont like the fact that u will get caught up sometimes then dont fish venues like the breakwater and the addy it happens no matter how good a fisherman u may think u are it onlys takes one person not to uptide to cause problems, also i have to agree that i never heard of mono cutting line maybe braid but im pretty sure dan would not have been using braid.

creedy, i know you n dan are mates and i'm not doubting him as a person or an angler, mono if run over anther will cut into it, two rubbing surfaces run over one another will cause friction.

i'll say it again, i'm not talking once or twice here i'm talkin all but every cast til the tide turned. and again when it turned back. i was quite happy up until the umpteenth time his line swung round and then pulled mine and my dads lines in. i spent half the poxy mornin re tying my dads leaders n traces cos his eyes aint too good. my dad has vowed never to fish on there again. which is a great shame. he aint got a lot of money and literally saved for this trip and i am really upset that he had his day ruined. I couldnt give a stuff about myself and my fishing. i get paid to fish, i can do it anytime i like! just a little common courtesy to the angler next to ya thats all. when gaz cast short like everyone else on there, there were no tangles at all.

Cascars, lock this one mate or get rid of it, either way.

i always cast about sixty yards out maybe more but by letting a big bow of line out it should not get caught up with anyone as it shold be out further than anyone keeping it short , like i said i can see how annoying it can become but that is the down side to fishing venues with high tidal conditions, u should really try and talk ur dad into giving it anouther go and perhaps fish the higher number where the tide run is not as strong and this time of year it usally fish's better seeing the first descent bass and smoothys, summer fishing the higher numbers end to be better cod fishing lower numbers the knuckle is the place to be but it can be messy with a strong tide

cascars dont get rid of it this is good for people to read so people no what to expect in venues like this we have all had a rants but there is still no hard feelings anywhere

ps how come u get paid to fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whats the deal there then

Nick im not going to lock this thread because i feel it gives good pointers as to the conditions on the breakwater and the problems associated with it. (Its Terrys call if it gone down hill though) Cascars isnt online as im sure hes in bed which is where i should be as we are both out on his boat tomorow.

I know i can trust the SE lads to keep it cool.

Tightlines all and lets all go fishing tomorow weeeeeeeeeeee.

It wont be closed all the time sensible and constructive comments are made. As you say it is could be helpful to others that may fish the breakwater and admiralty. All I ask is that this particular incident is forgotten about now without a major falling out.:)

Fair enough lads.

creedy,
I'm in a very, very fortunate position mate, for the last 8 years i've fished in a huge league that is for the whole of the MoD and all associated employees, it fishes the length n breadth of the country, plus overseas. cos i fish for 'em at a very high level, fishing a match or training day, time off is no worries, (although dave oldman may laugh at that cos i cant get time off in may for once!:schmoll:) I get full pay to go fishing, on top of that 2/3 of all costs, including boat fees, accomodation, usually a bnb, plus a hire car and all fuel. you get clothing etc but i'm not really into that, the only thing you pay for is rods, reels and tackle. add to that tackle shop sponsorship and its quite a good deal really. plus i coarse fish for 'em as well! some blokes do game fishing on top of all that as well! :D :D

thats just the fishing, I ski with 'em as well, which you can really take the p1ss with!!!!!!:clap2:

creedy mono can cut mono, obviously if one is a stronger breaking strain than the other. Had it done to me a couple of times on there and the Addy.

Have met both mudway and nick and I'm sure they are both capable anglers and this was most probably an unlucky day for nick and his dad.

I have had numerous incidents regarding anglers who are novices or even seasoned experts that have crossed my line with a cast or the weight being dragged into my line because of tidal run on the Wall or Addy and myself getting rather peeved off because of it. Its a case of either having a quiet polite word or if it continues throw em in. Only joking :) Try to help them, if they are willing to learn, or move.

Thats why I don't fish the Addy much now.

Just a little tip, 20lb is too thick a line to use out there. Stick to 15 or 18 tops. The diameter causes a lot of drag and you would need a bl00dy great boat anchor to hold bottom. The result of fishing with the thick line is exactly what happened, more drifting into other peoples lines.
