Hi all,

I am hopefully going to give fly fishing for sea trout a go this year. Despite catching numerous mullet and bass with a fly, I would still class myself as a fly fishing amateur and I've not yet caught Sea trout. I plan to fish places like the Ogmore estuary and the estuaries around Carmarthen.

I am going to use greys GR40 10 foot 7# rod. What would be the best line to use? I am thinking something like a Rio Outbound Short Shooting head wf7 Floating.

thanks in advance, Ieuan

Have you seen how Rio's prices have shot up recently! Integrated SH are not very subtle and challenging to mend cross tide. I'd be inclined to go for a long belly WF

Second vote for Barrio lines. SLX is great or the switch line.
I have used a bass taper line I picked up in a sale before and its fine.
I got fed up of double hauling and the wear on my shoulder so went over to a 12foot spey rod and scandi lines.
Now I use a #3 micro spey rod that loads lovely with a SLX barrio #7 and doesn't need a haul.

Only other advice I'd give is Jan-March fish big flies. 3inch tubes are not too big.
By July I'm often down to a couple of size #16s
