There is nothing quite so good as knowing you will definitely be going fishing on Friday night !
Had boots on the beach live text commentary from Commander FJM through the early part of the afternoon and a (slightly late) non net update from Stu. Thanks guys
Inbound just after 6.20pm to catch the first official moody sunset pic of the spring (not much sunset though !) as I decided where to set up for the night.
Cloud Sky Road surface Dusk Asphalt
Moody sunset shot...........er !
I gazed over the sea wall at a flattish sea, coloured to about 120m ruffled by a light easterly breeze. High water 21.30 hours, game on. A whining noise behind me as a great big Blankerwolf slunk off home early ! We both knew !
So 2 rod 3 hook flapper formation, 4s n 2s till dark and a change to a big hook single rig on the long stick planned. Top Prime black n rag as usual with some sandeel and squid for tipping, some Tappy special sticky for the dablets. Outdabbinme mate had finished work early and set up near the King Alfred (cos he fancied a change of scenery) and text me to say he had 2 tings in the bin before I had even set up.
Conditions, at this time of the year, had dogs n dabs looking a certainty. Size 2s long on the big stick and a medium range lob with the size 4s. Tidied up base camp and the knocks started.
Tripod lurched forward and I just caught it in time but which rod ? Both rods with a fish on set seawards. Disappointingly, 2 tings on the size 4s but a bad tempered 60 cm doggy on the Rampage let me know he was there. Not a bad start.
Wood Paint Gas Tints and shades Electric blue
Er..........walking the dog !
Font Gas Wood Electric blue Symbol
Ah, Sittttt !!!!
Back out and after 5 minutes or so both rods a knockin again, pout on the long range and a massive slack liner on the other rod. Now don't get me wrong I love a slack liner but...........on size 4s er.......it will end in tears............it did ! Fish on.........fish off, another doggy I am sure. So first rig change at the end of an hour and so 3/0 single hooker out long alternating Sandeel and squid n lug, and size 1s on the medium range mainly rag n squid. Decent pull down on the medium range rod resulted in a 50 cm doggie number 2 and a selection of tings, pout and a couple of colins up to high tide.
The long rod just got bait raped apart from 1 healthy knock that resulted in a few bumps and a bite off ! Ow Booger ! So I slung a whole sandeel danger close along the beach and reverted to the size 4s on a plop looking for a dab at high water. Result.....a hand sized pout on the whole sandeeel and another piggin slack liner on the small hooks.........fish on.......fish off !
Went long with both rods for a quiet hour or more then the rattles started and got quite vicious, spun a little crab in on the small hooks and not a lot else.
Liquid Arthropod Blue Organism Water
A small crab ! PB so far this year tho !
Stuck at it to see what these rattles were, several Colins clearly too big for there boots and another pout. Stayed a good hour later than necessary because I could, packed up at midnight with scores of 2 doggies 8 pout 7 Tings and 5 or 6 slugs. Outdabbinme got tinged out in Hove, packing up at high with 22 to his name (tee hee) whilst another mate text me a big fat blank at Shorhorrorham ( tee hee two )
Great night to be out,not a flat type fish to be seen, hoped for a few dabs or an early raymond but no matter, went fishing, caught fish, job done.
Next week looking ok too. More pout than tings, wow !, Maximus will doubtless perk up at the news that the little pouts have arrived.
Till next week guys, tight lines

Great report. Good selection of fish. Like the moody sunset. A definite lack of flatties around at the moment.

Another superb report Mein Kapitan, had a major comms failure last night so sorry for not replying to your message.
Great that you had a few fish, and a bite off!! That is happening quite a bit lately, what is responsible?

Who blanked at Shorehorrorham? It's impossible to blank there, oh hang on ........................
I'm off out tomorrow so will report on a fish filled/blanker wolf session

Mate..........
I haven't had a dab this year, almost exactly a year ago I fished that spot early am into daylight and had 24 dabs and a flounder in 4 hours ! This winter weather has really changed something.
Cheers Bud

Hi L T
It was Geoff that blanked at Shoreham ! He lives Horsham way as well ! Yeah bite offs, crabs have been suggested but mine was fish on, fish off, no pigtail, clean cut about 20mm up from hook. Bait was big black n squid head. My moneys on strap congers based on the teeth the booger I caught had.
Good luck in the blanker triangle tomorrow. Got your email....see how you get on tomorrow eh ! Good idea though.
Empty it bud..........dogs of a different kind an issue maybe tomorrow if the suns out !

Cheers captain, and cheers for the live feed from the front! Nice doggies there, its funny they really do get p'd off at being caught don't they. Shame about the dabs and you're right this winter being so mild and wild has changed things. As did last year long and cold. Going to be an interesting year.

Good luck with Lisa on Wednesday

It's a crackin venue...........you can buy that as well or a bag of exotic tobacco if you know which car park to be in at midnight ! We have the odd skinny dippers as well, problem is they are odd...........and not always skinny !

They are definitely dodgy doggies and they are prone to go the wrong way when you put them back ! That one in the picture eventually went in with the 'long slow gentle under arm lob ' technique !
See you on the shingle one Friday night soon I hope mate. No beer for a few weeks now !

Another good read Steve. Surprised on the lack of dabs so far this year. Maybe if this settled spell persists we'll see a few more.
Thanks Mike
I have found you tend to get the dablets earlier in the tide, it had been making 3 hours by the time I started but next week is a down and over I reckon which might be better.
Cheers

That's a great sunset shot of Seaford Steve.....really captures the 'easy access' nature of the venue too :clap3:

I don't know about you but whenever i catch Pout at Seaford, i always think how healthy the underwater habitat must be in Seaford Bay :clap2:

Would make a nice change if one of those big grandad Pout threw itself on the hook once in a while over at Seaford. When the micro-Pout turn up on the feed over there it can be a bit like when the tings get their heads down.....a little bit 'challenging' to say the least

A few Dogs in amongst the small stuff.....i'll settle for that i reckon.....least they give the ol' string a bit of a pull :fishing:

Entertaining and informative report as always Steve.....nice one

A good ready mate. You'd love some of our marks, you'd need a bigger box.
Hi Kennedy
Only if you get your mate to carry it ! Bear in mind that was a Lisa Sat image from 64 miles up. That blue box is a hotel on the prom !
Some crab eh !
Good fun
Thanks
